MeRT Treatment for Depression

Discover a Life You Truly Love Living

Depression is a common mental health condition, affecting more than 17 million Americans. And while many people may use words like “bleak” or “hopeless,” to describe how being depressed feels, no two people have the exact same experience — because no two people have the exact same brain. MeRT is a personalized depression treatment option that can restore your mind’s proper balance and help you discover joy again.

Quick Overview of Depression

Depression is a mood disorder that affects the way you think, feel, and behave. It comes in several different forms, including major depressive disorder, seasonal affective disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic depression, and postpartum depression.

While people who have depression often feel persistently down and unhappy, depression is more than being sad. When you’re depressed, you may notice you have less motivation or energy to do things. You might feel incredibly emotional and cry a lot, or you might feel apathetic and struggle to feel anything at all.

Depression can affect anyone at any age — including children. A depressive episode may come out of the blue, or it can be linked to a certain event, such as the death of a loved one or the end of a relationship. However, unlike normal dips in life, depression doesn’t fade with time. Rather it lasts two weeks or longer and often requires professional intervention to treat.

Depression Is Rooted in Your Brain

While many people struggle with depression, traditional treatments are not always effective at helping people rediscover a life of vitality and joy. Conventional medicine often turns to antidepressants as the main treatment against depression, but this medication is not effective for everyone and comes with several problematic side effects.

While therapy can help people with depression develop skills to better understand their depression and employ effective problem-solving skills, it cannot quickly and effectively change the structure of brains. Depression is multi-faceted and is caused by more than one factor, but brain dysfunction is often a key part of this.

If you looked at a depressed person’s brain, it would look very different from a normal brain. Previous EEG studies have found an imbalance in brainwave activity between the left and right hemispheres in the brain.  Depression can alter your brain’s neural pathways and even shrink the size of your hippocampus. Fortunately, with treatment, it’s possible to reverse the effects of depression and achieve a more balanced, healthy brain.

How MeRT Can Help Treat Depression

Many people have tried to break free from depression for years with no real success. They are told they need to take medication to feel normal, but they haven’t seen success with antidepressants or aren’t comfortable with the possible negative health effects.

If this is your story, Magnetic Resonance Therapy (MeRT) is the solution you’ve been looking for. It’s pain free and will never require you to take a drug or undergo an invasive procedure. MeRT is personalized to your unique brain and addresses imbalances in your brain activity by targeting them with magnetic waves.

Dr. Joseph Radawi

Why We Treat Depression with MeRT

Dr. Joseph Radawi, MD, practiced emergency medicine for more than 10 years before moving into functional medicine. He saw first-hand the impact that chronic conditions, including many mental and neurological conditions, were having on people in his community and wanted to help.

He found that while traditional medicine is great for acute care, such as injuries and emergencies, it doesn’t have good enough answers when it comes to chronic, life altering conditions. MeRT Treatment is a breakthrough approach that treats the neurons of the brain, rather than just the symptoms, to restore brain health for the long-term. Over the years Dr. Radawi has realized that altered mental and brain health is a limiting factor in obtaining optimal health even when following other functional medicine lifestyle recommendations. This is why he is so excited to introduce this innovative treatment in East Tennessee.

Dr. Radawi has completed advanced clinical training in functional medicine and MeRT treatment and has helped many patients address the root causes of their problems and step into a new world of possibilities. Are you ready to take control and restore your brain health?

For me depression was the constant feeling of: “I want to quit” and retreat to my home, except I would already be home… MeRT helped me shed this feeling in less than 2 weeks. I couldn’t believe I had spent so many years feeling that way.
