MeRT Treatment

Discover and Nurture Your Unique Brain

MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, is an innovative solution for discovering the root cause of many neurological conditions and creating customized, effective treatments without prescribing medicine. The entire process is pain free and non-invasive, and the equipment we use is cleared by the FDA. MeRT treatment recognizes that each individual’s brain is different and allows to identify patterns of dysfunctions of the brain and create a customized treatment based on this discovery.

What Is MeRT Therapy?

MeRT is a diagnostic and treatment neurotherapy based on a highly customized use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. It was developed to heal and improve the brain where other treatments, such as psychoactive drugs, have failed. Like functional medicine, with MeRT we’ll never place you in a box and treat you like every other patient that walks through our doors. Rather, we’ll analyze your unique brain and help identify areas for improvement, treating the root cause of various brain disorders rather than just minimizing symptoms.

The MeRT treatment protocol takes place over four steps.  First, we’ll start by recording your brainwave and heart rate data with a quantitative EEG or brain map, combined with an EKG. These tests measure your heart rate, brain-heart coherence, and brain wave frequencies. We gather this information by attaching sensors to your scalp, ears, and chest, while you close your eyes for about ten minutes. This qEEG reveals patterns of dysfunction in your brain, allowing us to identify various neurological conditions, including brain injuries, mental health conditions, behavioral issues, and more. We’ll analyze this data to better understand your brain and create a customized treatment plan to encourage healthy brain communication.

Next, we’ll begin treatment. We’ll have you sit in a comfortable spot and will position a magnetic coil on your head, targeting predetermined regions of your brain with your individualized treatment protocol. These areas are stimulated with magnetic waves for six to eight seconds per minute for a course of approximately 45 minutes. We’ll continue to monitor your progress and administer subsequent treatments over the course of four to six weeks. We will take a q-EEG and EKG recording every 10 treatments, discussing your progress with you and making any adjustments if needed.

How Does MeRT Neurotherapy Work?

MeRT aims to reprogram abnormal electrical signals in the brain. The human brain has approximately 100 billion neurons, which all interact with each other through electrical brain waves. There are many biological factors and events that can disrupt your neurons, including factors like high-stress levels, head injuries, substance abuse, congenital conditions, and sleep disruption.  These disruptions can vary in how much they disturb the brain, and everyone’s tolerance threshold is unique. MeRT works by picking up these disruptions and optimizing how your brain’s neuron networks communicate with each other, producing significant improvement for many brain disorders.

What Does MeRT Treat?

Symptoms of Brain Disruptions & Disorders

MeRT is a targeted treatment tailored to each individual’s brain. Even two individuals with similar symptoms and the same diagnosis will have unique brains that require a customized treatment. MeRT is often used to help improve brain functioning for people with a wide range of neurological conditions and mental health conditions, especially PTSD, autism, anxiety, insomnia, TBI, depression, and brain trauma. However, this treatment is also helpful for people who haven’t been diagnosed with a brain disorder. Since things like inadequate sleep and high-stress levels can contribute to neurological disruptions, anyone can experience the positive benefits of MeRT.

Dr. Joseph Radawi

Why We Treat Neurological and Mental Disorders with MeRT

Dr. Joseph Radawi, MD, practiced emergency medicine for more than 10 years before moving into functional medicine. He saw first-hand the impact that chronic conditions, including many mental and neuological conditions, were having on people in his community and wanted to help.

He found that while traditional medicine is great for acute care, such as injuries and emergencies, it doesn’t have good enough answers when it comes to chronic, life altering conditions. MeRT Treatment is a breakthrough approach that treats the neurons of the brain, rather than just the symptoms, to restore brain health for the long-term. Over the years Dr. Radawi has realized that altered mental and brain health is a limiting factor in obtaining optimal health even when following other functional medicine lifestyle recommendations. This is why he is so excited to introduce this innovative treatment in East Tennessee

Dr. Radawi has completed advanced clinical training in functional medicine and MeRT treatment and has helped many patients address the root causes of their problems and step into a new world of possibilities. Are you ready to take control and restore your brain health?
